santa cruz

been hanging in santa cruz for last week or so, after leaving the east coast and flying into LAX from Newark. will have to do some other cities in between some other day. last few days in NY/NJ were fun. got my camera and just hung out.

hanging w/ Dejana, a friend of Andrews, at a restaurant in little italy, NY

driving out of LA towards Ojai w/ Chad.

stop over at in-n-out burgers in atascadero (Anna in drawing as well)

Ana and I in Santa Cruz, at 112's backyard

drove by the Duke statue in Santa Cruz (we also have one of him back home in Manly, so... cool)

had a waterballoon fight w/ Matt, Rob, Cassie and Carrie one of days. good clean fun.

so this is the first part of the trip we're taking. first volunteer work will be in Guatemala in a turte conservation study by the Pacific Ocean. then we go inland to a lake in the middle of tropical forest to work w/ injured and recovering animals. before releasing them back in the wild. after that... Belize. Central Farm to be visited for Charles G.

i spent 6 days in these three visiting friends, Damon and Sarah, and the area. a very funny friday night for me in the end... psycho girl. read on brave eyewitness. also saw Belle and Sebastian, Broken Social Scene and Ted Leo at Merriweather Post Pavillion and then Amadou and Mariam at Birchmere Bandstand.

this still back in Jersey. Andrew is friend i'm staying w/ there. can see all of Manhattan skyline from his place. night before i left to DC.

Alexis and Damon. was staying at Damon and Sarah's and their friend, Alexis, visited. she'd just arrived from Japan where she was for a while.

Anna and I relaxing at the seminary in Forest Glen, Maryland. amazing abondoned place w/ all these great 19th century buildings all around. massive place as well so plenty to explore. all boarded up but would be an adventure.

another part of the seminary

Anna and i get political. some dickhead by the name of Bush works close to here.

montreal

montreal... wow!
love this city. totally in it's own fashion. people seem to be their own people and that is great to see. and buzzing w/ the jazz festival. i got to see the Dears, the Bernard Llakes, Socalled Orchestra, Martha Wainwright (unfortunately missing Andrew Bird opening...fuck!) and Seu Jorge (plus a few other of free shows around city).

i could live there... if i got offered a job there.

on top of Mont-Royal w/ John, Bronwyn and Simon. great view over the city.

my first food in Montreal was this great pho.

the Dears.

so one night (the saturday) we ended up at three parties. all quite different. third was a warehouse party that one of guys at second party told us about. there were dancing dogs. hallways, about 4 metres wide, lined w/ people talking and dancing. then steel stairs that led to main dance area. cops came in later and place was locked down for a while. all of us inside dancing and mingling while they banged on door. party kept going. this guy is one we met at said party. it was an actual metal sword.

this was sunday. at bottom of Mont-Royal. just groups of guys, and some girls, w/ their homemade swords, shields and whatever (soft and rubbery/plastic). they jut have fun having mini wars. there seemed to be rules and even healers. guys kneeling are dead.

the house of Bacalhau (that is my surname) on St. Laurent

Casa del Popolo. the coolest little cafe i went into. on St. Laurent. also went out there at night.
